I just want to say "Merry Christmas"...not "happy holidays" or "seasons greetings"...but just the good old fashion and proper Merry Christmas. So yeah...I'm a little perturbed at this whole political correctness deal...it's just stupid. I mean, what are they going to do about the classic "It's a Wonderful Life"?!!!!...will they dub-over George Baile's (James Stewart) countless Merry Christmas cries?!!! Aagghhh...HAHA...it just doesn't work.

ten years go by fast

Ten years ago I left Peru and on December 12, 2005…I’ll be going back to live.

Several thoughts crowd my mind as I get ready to venture back:
+ + how is this all going to pan out?…
+ + lima isn’t really what I remember it to be…
+ + I can’t wait to live on the beach…surfing galore…
+ + all my close friends are in the States…
+ + will I be able to make a difference?…
+ + it’ll be nice to finally settle down…
+ + I get to keep an art studio…
+ + my dad got a satellite dish…I can watch football!…
+ + woohooo!!…
+ + it really is the right time to go back…
+ + God has been so good to me…
+ + I get to have 4D coffee…that stuff is so good…
+ + I’ve made some amazing friends throughout the last ten years…
+ + what do people expect from me in lima?…
+ + can I hack it?…
+ + I’m going to give it my best…
+ + I love my family…
+ + the new Sufjan Stevens album is amazing…
+ + I’ve got 2 bags of clothing and 5 boxes of books to my name…
+ + It’s tough to think that I left home at fifteen…I was so young…

As I look back…it’s the last ten years that have shaped me the most. I couldn’t say that I’m not a little freaked out…because I am, but I’m definitely not fearful anymore. In fact, I’m up for the challenge…I can’t wait for the challenge.

So I've been invited to speak at SALT on Nov. 10-12 2005.
It's a creative arts conference in Christchurch, New Zealand.
I'll be giving three elective courses/workshops on graphic design.

I'm pretty stoked for the opportunity...
It'll be a little weird, because I've never done something like this, but I'm up for the task.

As I looked at the CD design work, I realized that it was done by one of my favorite artists..."Nessim Higson" (IAAH...IAmAlwaysHungry).

On another token..."Nessim Higson (IAAH)" is also teaming up with "i-manifest" to bring a shirt focused around and for the victums of the katrina disaster.

Legions of half-naked teenage girls danced, twirled and pounded the earth outside the royal kraal on Monday, proclaiming their willingness to become the next bride of the last absolute monarch in sub-Saharan Africa. He already has 12 wives and a fiancee.
"We are happy, we are healthy and we are alone," sang thousands of tuneful, high-pitched voices. "We are the flowers of the Swazi people." Mswati reclined on a throne under a golden awning.
This annual Umhlanga, or Reed Dance, is the highlight of Swaziland's traditional calendar. Every chief in the country of a million people sends a group of teenage virgins to the royal kraal in Ludzidzini. Every year the ceremony expands. Monday's occasion attracted more than twice as many girls as last year.
Yet in a country where 42.6 per cent of the adult population is infected with HIV or AIDS - the highest rate in the world - critics say Mswati sets a bad example.

"It's as if the girls are going on an auction sale with the king picking," said Mario Masuku, the leader of the People's United Democratic Movement, a banned opposition party. "I would not encourage my daughter to take part in this. It is being abused for one man's personal satisfaction."
Last year, the 37-year-old monarch chose 16-year-old Miss Teen Swaziland, Nothando Dube. His eldest daughter, Princess Sikhanyiso, is 17.
The king will study a video of the festivities before choosing a fiancee. She will become a fully fledged queen when impregnated.
Last year the king spent almost $21.5 million on palaces and BMWs for his wives. Meanwhile a third of the population depend on international food aid.
"I want to be a queen because I want to be famous and I want people to look at me," said Gindza Mondlanha, 22, a trainee policewoman. "I also want a BMW - not a Mercedes, a BMW series X5."
Yet some were ardently hoping not to catch the royal eye.

Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith

This book by Rob Bell is one of the most challenging books I've come across. I picked it up last week and I couldn't put it down 'till it was done. On several levels it's made me think and rethink my approach to the Bible, not to mention my understanding of the church. I'm not sure that I completely side with Rob Bell on some of the books issues, but its definitely caused me to search out my beliefs and weigh them against my relationship with God.

I really think that Velvet Elvis is a must read...! You need to read it!!! In fact...I'm going to read it again several times to squeeze all its got to offer.

Every Friday night some of the guys from Citychurch (the church that I’m interning at in Newcastle) go out and set up a three grills and two tables in order to give out free sausage sandwiches and coffee to everyone coming out of the pubs (bars). We’re usually out from 10pm till about 2am. As you might assume, people coming out from the pubs are, for the most part, wasted…and even though it’s a sad sight, we get some hilarious drunk people. There is this one dude, in particular, that stands out above the rest.

Two Fridays ago this Dude, while waiting in line for a sausage sandwich, started to express how incredible He thought that we were for the service that we were providing. He continued by making sure that everyone in line has dropped money into one of the donation tins. A few minutes later He came back and loudly made known His gratitude to everyone once more. But that wasn’t enough. He asked us to empty one of the donation tins in order that He may go hit up people that haven’t given a donation. About ten minutes later this guy returns with a half full tin and a huge grin on his proud yet drunken face. He then turns to Ben (one of the guys from the church) and asks, “So what are these donations about?” Ben replies, “It’s for a drug and rehabilitation center…” The Dude then continues, “…Oh, I’ve been telling people it’s for cancer research…” HAHAHA

Well, that’s not the end of it… After disappearing into the pub across the street for a few hours, He makes another appearance. This time He goes right past us and starts to climb the huge oak tree that’s about 30 feet behind us. Mind you, this guy is wearing a suit and tie. Anyway, He manages to reach an impressive height of 20 feet and then proceeds to yell out, “I’m giving back to nature…I am giving back to nature…!!” while pissing for 45 seconds onto the ground below.

Welp, I made it to Newcastle. It's gotta be one of the most beautiful places on earth...the beaches are picture perfect with great waves.
Darko and Cathy, the people that I'm staying with, are great and they've treated me as royalty...I couldn't ask for more.
Later on I'll write a little more about the voyage here...not much time right now.

The reason I'm bowing down to the mighty blogger is because this Tuesday, 31, 2005 I leave the U.S. for the land of the koala (have you ever seen them fight? They are crazy, fierce, and vicious...) - Australia. I'll be there for about a total of 6 months - moving on to Lima, Peru after that to finally settle down and get some crap rolling.

It's been an amazing time in the States - about 9 years now - and I'm ready to go back home to Lima.

Anywho, I'll try to keep this machine updated, but I've been known to be an ungrateful bastard...hence, no promises.
